33-year-old Jesse Timmendequas lured 7-year-old Megan Kanka in to
his house in Hamilton Township, NJ. Shortly after, Megan was strangled to
death and raped. Jesse was living in a half way house and was on parole
after his second sex offense. Mrs. Kanka feels that she as well as the
other neighbors should have been notified about the fact that a repeat sex
offender was being released back into the public. I tend to disagree
strongly.
Two-hundred-thousand people also seem to agree with here in New
Jersey. They would want to know so that they could keep their kids inside
and not let them play in their own neighborhood. Mrs. Kanka would not have
let her daughter play outside if she would have known, and if she should
have done this her daughter would still be alive today. Sure it might be
nice to know, then you could take the right precautions, but if the system
does its job then you should have to worry about Jesse as much as any other
person. It is not fair to the child to limit the way he or she can play
just because a sex offender is free.

I strongly feel that is essential in our legal system, as well as everyday life. Just as a toddler needs to be disciplined when he or she has a tantrum, a murderer needs to be punished for his or her actions. The death penalty solves many problems. It is a threat to any conspiring criminal-murderer. It promises the inescapable condition. It frees...
The death penalty doesn't prevent or reduce crime, it costs a whole lot more than life in prison, and worst of all, risks executions of innocent people. The worst thing about it. Errors: As of today, 139 wrongly convicted people who were sentenced to death have been exonerated and released from death row. Obviously, if someone is convicted and...
Americans are faced with an ever-growing problem of violence. Our streets have become a battleground where the elderly are beaten for their social security checks, where terrified women are viciously attacked and raped, where teen-age gangsters shoot it out for a patch of turf to sell their...
I believe that is the right thing to do, especially for repeat and violent offenders. I think that people should think about what will happen to them if they commit a crime, and the consequences that will follow the crime. We as a society have enough problems to deal with without people committing crimes. I am for because the cost is expensive fo...

The American public is alarmed about crime, and with good reason. Our crime rate is unacceptably high, and many Americans feel like prisoners in their own homes, afraid to venture out for fear of becoming another statistic. For more than 20 years, state and federal crime control policies have been based on the belief that harsh sentencing laws wi...

Human nature consists of three basic components. These are to live, to propagate and to dominate.
