HIGH COURT

Queen's Bench Division: This is the biggest of the three divisions. It deals with contract and tort cases where the amount claimed is over Pound100,000, though it can hear smaller claims where there is an important point of law. Cases are normally tried by a single judge, but there is a right to jury trial for fraud, libel, slander, malicious prosecution or false imprisonment cases. A jury is very rarely used. If a jury is used there will be 12 members. There is also an Administrative Court in the Queen's Bench Division. This court supervises the lawfulness of the conduct of national and local government, of inferior courts and tribunals, and other public bodies through judicial review
